A ferry (or ferryboat) is a boat or ship (a merchant vessel) used to carry (or ferry) primarily passengers, and sometimes vehicles and cargo as well, across a body of water. Most ferries operate on regular, frequent, return services. A passenger ferry with many stops, such as in Venice, Italy, is sometimes called a water bus or water taxi.
Ferries form a part of the public transport systems of many waterside cities and islands, allowing direct transit between points at a capital cost much lower than bridges or tunnels. However, ship connections of much larger distances (such as over long distances in water bodies like the Mediterranean Sea) may also be called ferry services, especially if they carry vehicles.
The profession of the ferryman is embodied in Greek mythology in Charon, the boatman who transported souls across the River Styx to the Underworld.
Speculation that a pair of oxen propelled a ship having a water wheel can be found in 4th century Roman literature "Anonymus De Rebus Bellicis". Though impractical, there is no reason why it could not work and such a ferry, modified by using horses, was used in Lake Champlain in 19th-century America. See "When Horses Walked on Water: Horse-Powered Ferries in Nineteenth-Century America" (Smithsonian Institution Press; Kevin Crisman, co-authored with Arthur Cohn, Executive Director of the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum). Ferry is a ghost town in Ferry County, Washington, United States. Ferry was founded during the late 1890s. The town was located to the west of Vulcan Mountain. Ferry was a ramshackle collection of crude log homes and false front buildings to support the mining boom in the area. By 1910 insurance fires took their toll and before long Ferry had passed into oblivion. Today little remains of the town.
Ferry Station will be a light rail station on the M-1 Rail Line in Detroit, Michigan. The station is expected to open for service in late 2016, and is located in Midtown. The station services the northern Cultural Center neighborhood as well as Wayne State University.
The Ferry Station is sponsored by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

A fleet is a collection of ships or vehicles, with many specific connotations:
A fleet is a saline waterway found in river marshes:
Fleet is found in place names:
Fleet (1964 – after 1979), known in the United States as Fleet II, was an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare who won the classic 1000 Guineas in 1967. In a racing career lasting from June 1966 until July 1967, the filly contested nine races (including one occasion on which she refused to start) and won five times. As a two-year-old in 1966, Fleet won two of her three races including the Cheveley Park Stakes and was the highest rated filly of her age in Britain. In the following year she won three races over a distance of one mile including the 1000 Guineas and the Coronation Stakes. When tried over longer distances she finished fourth in the Epsom Oaks and Eclipse Stakes. She was retired to stud where she had some success as a broodmare in Britain and the United States.
Fleet was a bay mare bred in County Limerick, Ireland by Peter FitzGerald. Her sire, Immortality, a British-bred half brother to the Whitney Stakes winner Cohoes, was sent to stud without ever having competed in a race. Shortly after siring Fleet he was sold and exported to Argentina. Fleet's dam, Review, was an outstanding broodmare: her other progeny included Pourparler (1000 Guineas), Democratie (Prix de la Forêt) and Display (Cheveley Park Stakes, Coronation Stakes). Review was a difficult and temperamental mare, who was often sent to be covered by Immortality as he was based near FitzGerald's stud.

It’s 1942, off the coast of Singapore, and a River Steamer commandeered by the British is attacked by Japanese bombers. Captain Thomas Wilkinson of the HMS Li Wo leads his crew in a desperate resistance, and escapes. When the Li Wo continues on its journey through the Bangka strait, their hopes are dashed when they spot a Japanese fleet 10 miles ahead. They could try and lay low and try avoid detection but the small crew on a commandeered boat take an incredibly brave decision. Despite being massively outnumbered and outgunned, they’ll fight. For more than a century, foot ferries have plied the waters of Puget Sound. In 2017, a new era began – the era of fast ferries.
Dangerous new faults have been found on Sydney's River Class ferries. Already too tall for bridges and riddled with asbestos, it now turns out the vessels can't reverse during an emergency - and the Indonesian build quality is so poor, crews have resorted to makeshift remedies. The summer ferry travel season will kick off this weekend. This spring has come with canceled routes and boats out for repair. Washington State Ferries started its six spring community meetings to discuss its service restoration plan and ask for community input. Community members questioned crew staffing and the number of vessels in the fleet. Those questions come as 300,000 people are expected to travel by ferry for Memorial Day Weekend. "Summertime is the Superbowl for the ferry system," said Ian Sterling, spokesperson for Washington State Ferries. "We carry twice as many people in the summer months as the winter months." There’s nothing quite like seeing Seattle’s skyline from the water. It’s a perk of riding the ferry to Bremerton. “I think people are jealous of us when we say we’re commuting by boat when they’re in cars,” said Kelly Chrey. She and her husband, Bryan, ride the ferry often. “Most of the time it’s pretty good, our frustration comes when they trade boats out and when boats are late,” said Kelly Chrey. Bryan Chrey has commuted by ferry to work every day for the last 35 years. After quite a hiatus since my last ferry review, I am glad to finally be able to have a proper look at another classic from Sydney harbour, the First Fleet class ferries. With nearly forty years of service under their belts, and a recent refurbishment, these vessels have proven themselves to be a core part of the network, and by the looks of it, will do for some time to come, so I thought it was only right to have a closer look. The Sydney First Fleet Ferries have been given a makeover that will extend their life by 10 years. Golden Grove was the first of the Sydney First Fleet Ferries to be gutted, overhauled and bought back to life with brand new engines, gear boxes, new seats, floors, ceilings and air conditioning. The Sydney First Fleet ferry makeover has given them a new lease of life. In this video, I'll take you on a tour of one of the refurbished first fleet ferries, so you can see how different they now look. The First Fleet Ferry Makeover started in 2020 and by January 2021, 4 Sydney ferries had been refurbished. These are Golden Grove, Fishburn, Sirius and Borrowdale. The remaining ferries will be refurbished during 2021. The First Fleet Ferry Refurbishment is being undertaken at Birdon's Shipyard ...
Auckland Transport has opened the shed for a look at the electric ferries it's having built. Just last week AT announced the end of several inner city routes, because operator Fullers360 says it doesn't have the crew to staff them. From the first of October, Fullers will no longer operate the Birkenhead, Te Onewa Northcote Point, and Bayswater routes. AT is scrambling now to find a new operator. In the meantime it hopes its new boats will bring a sea change for ferry commuters. Reporter Finn Blackwell and camera operator Marika Khabazi have this story.

Fiction and reality collide
Faceless and so busted up inside
You've been searching you've been crying out
Will you be destroyed by all your doubt?
You decide, who will you run to?
Wrong or right, there is no reason for you to hide
Only love can change your life
Only love can change your life, you decide
God is calling out to you again
Let Him pull you, let Him take you in
From the fear that swallows up your life
Will you stay the same or will you fight
Every day you hold on to your lonely broken heart
It's tearing you apart
God is calling out to you just let healing start
